Detect Interference

Used to detect physical interferences or clearance violations in the model.

Detecting physical crash interferences

Detecting clearance violation problems

Typically, every pair of individual intersecting elements is regarded as an interference. However, interferences between elements that are in the same actor, cell, or shared cell are not reported. In a complex model, you can choose not to report certain interferences detected during animation playback by checking the appropriate suppression options:

  • Ignore interferences between actors in the same hierarchy

  • Ignore interferences between actors that are direct descendents

  • Ignore interferences at the first frame

SettingDescription
Animation

Displays the name of the animation.

Interference Type

Sets the type of interference you want to check in the active model, either physical clashes or clearance violation problems.

Clearance

If Interference Type is set to Clearance Violation Problems, sets the clearance value.

Check interference for a range

If on, activates the Start and End fields to set the range of the interference.

Start

Sets the animated sequence's start date and time. Click the Set Start Date/Time icon to open the Select Start Time dialog, which lets you select a date, month, year and time for the start time of the animation.

End

Sets the animated sequence's end date and time. Click the Set End Date/Time icon to open the Select End Time dialog, which lets you select a date, month, year and time for the end time of the animation.

Ignore interferences between actors in the same hierarchy

This toggle is useful when there is an articulated structure which is modeled as a hierarchy of parent and child actors (for example, a crane). If on, ignores the interferences between actors with the same hierarchy, such as interferences between parts of the same structure (e.g., boom, winch, etc.). Default is off.

Ignore interferences between actors that are direct descendents

If on, ignores the interferences between actors that are directly attached to each other. Default is on.

This toggle is also useful when there is an articulated structure which is modeled as a hierarchy of parent and child actors (for example, a crane). This toggle differs from the above toggle in that it ignores only interferences between actors that are directly attached (for example, interferences between a boom and a winch but not between a winch and the body of a crane).

Ignore interferences at the first frame

If on, does not detect the interference between the element and the ground when the element is located on the ground. Default is on.

This toggle is useful in the case when a crane in always located on the ground and you do not want to consider a contact between the crane and the ground as an interference.

Color

You can set the color of the moving and static elements involved in a physical clash or clearance violation. Adjacent to the color tile at the right end of each color field, click the down arrow. From the option menu, choose whether to use a custom color or the element color. If you choose custom, click the colored tile to open the Active Color dialog and select a color.

Dynamic Object Color

Sets the color of the moving elements.

Static Object (Physical Clash) Color

In a physical clash, set the color of the static elements.

Static Object (Clearance) Color

In a clearance violation, sets the color of the static elements.
